Assigning the Clickers to your Students
When You Receive your Clickers -- Write down the Serial Numbers
When you receive your clickers you will need to write down the serial numbers, install the batteries, and mark the outside of the clickers with a numbering system. You can use a Sharpie to mark the clickers or you can tape the numbers to the clickers with adhesive tape.
You can mark the clickers with short numbers and letters, such as "#22" or "A17" -- you do not need to mark the serial number on the outside of the clickers.
Then, when you assign the clickers to your students, write their names on a form so you will know which clicker is used by which student. You will know that Eric uses clicker 14 and Jose uses clicker 27 (for example). Eric should always use clicker 14 when he is in your class. Jose always uses #27.
While you are setting up the information for the AYP-API Reporter program (after you have gathered the students response with the Acquisition program), you can use the form below to enter the information into the student roster.

Using the System in K-12 Schools
The Clicker system is used in hundreds of college classes around the United States. The systems go by a variety of names: Personal Response System, Classroom Performance System, Audience Response System. We selected the system that we believe is the easiest to use for the K-12 environment (it is also about 1/2 the cost of other systems).
Search for "Clickers in the Classroom" and you will find over 11,000 articles dating back to 2004. The majority of these articles deal with clickers in the college classroom. Clickers are used in over 700 college classrooms across the United States.
Clickers at the college level are used to take attendance, to interject occasional questions to make sure students are paying attendance, to providing instant feedback for instructors.
The introduction of clickers into the K-12 classroom is a fairly new phenomena.
State Standards Correlations
Currently we have all of our sample test questions correlated to the Oklahoma Department of Education State Standards. Our reporting system shows how students perform against Oklahoma Standards.
Your State will be correlated (at no extra charge) when we receive a subscription for 20 schools in your state. The 20 subscriptions can be from one district or several districts. We will also provide one week of on-site training (5 consecutive days in any/all of your schools) at no extra charge with 20 subscriptions.
Benefits for the K-12 School
- Clickers increase the level of engagement in the classroom.
- Students have a larger stake in the discussion.
- Students know that they will be asked to respond -- they pay attention.
- There is a bit of drama as students wait to see the answers.
- The first students to respond will be watching the screen until all students answer.
- Each student will quickly learn where their response will be displayed on the screen.
- Clickers provide teachers with important information.
- Instant feedback for both the student and the teacher.
- You don't need to wait until the tests have been taken.
- You immediately know if a topic needs more explanation.
- If all of your students answer correctly, you can move on to new material.
- Teachers won't assume that students understand the material.
- Responses are anonymous.
- Only the student and teacher know who answered correctly.
- Student is not embarrassed if they select the wrong answer
- Peer pressure to "act dumb" or disinterested is eliminated.
- Everyone participates -- not just the most vocal and agressive students.
- Every class has a few agressive students who answer most of the questions.
- Every class has a few shy students who just sit and watch.
- Every class has a few followers who "agree" with the "smart" students' answers.
- Clickers responses can be captured in a database to generate meaningful reports.
- Class Summary Reports show administrators if students are on the right track.
- Student Reports can be shared with parents to encourage parental involvement.
- Reports show exactly which questions were missed by each student.
- Tutoring sessions can focus on areas where students lack understanding.
- Reports list questions answered correctly by all, imporving teacher efficiency.
Drawbacks at the K-12 Level
- Batteries die.
- You should have spare batteries with each classroom kit.
- Practice replacing batteries -- It only takes 20 seconds to change a battery.
- Clickers break or get Lost.
- Spare clickers can be assigned to students with a broken clicker.
- Our reporting system accepts input from (up to) 3 clickers for one student.
- The clickers are plastic -- use care when opening, closing, changing batteries.
- Line-Of-Site must be kept open.
- Mount the receiver near the front of the room.
- Mount the receiver about 6 feet off of the floor.
