I Can Do It Blindfolded - State Counties

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (Objectives)
Given a prop (blindfold, scarf, dark glasses or with their eyes closed) students will be able to recite all XX Counties of your state.

FIVE STEP LESSON PLAN

Set Induction/Anticipatory Set:
Ask the students if they know what a Mental Picture is?

Instruction/Teaching to the Objective:
Explain that, once they have a mental picture of something, you don't need to have your eyes open to see it.

Guided Practice:
Using the Blindfold supplied with the Teacher Kit or while covering your eyes with your hand, show the students that you can quickly name all XX Counties without being able to see (blindfold might not fit over your head/hair -- hold it in front of your eyes).

Independent Practice:
Hand the blindfold or other eye covering to the first student in the row. After the student recites the XX Counties they will hand the blindfold to the next person in the row. Continue up and down each row until all students have had their chance to do this. Make sure students understand that they can forgo the blindfold and simply shut their eyes if they are uncomfortable with the eye covering.

Closure:
Explain that this is a good way to help them remember the names of the counties.

EVALUATION:
This should have been a fun class. All students should have performed flawlessly.
