Letters In A Hat - State Counties
FIVE STEP LESSON PLAN
Set Induction/Anticipatory Set:
Ask the students if they know how many counties begin with the letter M? What about the letter N? (select the two or three letters for your state from this link)
Instruction/Teaching to the Objective:
Although they probably already know by now, tell them that these two or three letters are the beginning letters of a large percentage of the counties in their state.
Guided Practice:
Draw a letter from the hat and recite the names of all counties that begin with the letter that you selected.
Independent Practice:
Students should form a line. Each student will draw a letter from the hat and recite all counties that begin with that letter. Students will put their letter in the discard pile and go to the end of the line. Students move up in line and the next student will draw a letter and say all counties that begin with the letter that they selected. When all letters have been used, put the letters from the discard pile back in the hat and continue with the exercise.
Closure:
Explain that this is a good way to help them remember the names of the counties.
EVALUATION:
This should have been a fun class. All students should have performed flawlessly.
RESOURCES AND MATERIALS:
