Don't Count Sheep - State Counties
(Student can review as they are going to sleep at night)

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (Objectives)
Having gained the knowledge of the names and locations of the XX Counties with the Click and Learn software, students should be able to mentally review as they are going to sleep at night.

FIVE STEP LESSON PLAN

Set Induction/Anticipatory Set:
Ask the students if they have ever heard of the term "Counting Sheep" as a method to help them get to sleep at night.

Instruction/Teaching to the Objective:
Tell them that, although that method may work, there are other things that they can do that will help them get to sleep and also get better grades.

Guided Practice:
With your eyes closed and your face relaxed (as if you are going to sleep at night) model how you would groggily review the XX Counties in your mind. Say the states quietly as your finger makes tiny movements to point to the states on your mental map of your state. You may pretend to drop off to sleep when you get to one of the "M" or "N" counties. Speed is NOT important for this exercise.

Independent Practice:
Have each student repeat what you showed them in the guided practice step. This may be humorous as some of the students pretend to snore as they are drifting to sleep.

Closure:
Explain that they can make good use of time that is otherwise wasted.

EVALUATION:
This should be a fun exercise as the students pretend to be partially asleep.

RESOURCES AND MATERIALS:
No resources needed. Will take about 1 minute per student.
