Hints to Help Learn Counties of Pennsylvania
Occasionally we stumble onto interesting pieces of information that help us learn faster and retain longer. Some of these may take imagination, but others are so obvious that we wonder why we didn't think of it sooner. Here are some that we have found.
Centre/Center. Centre county is in the center of the state.
Forest County. While reciting the counties of Pennsylvania, notice that there is a county shaped like a bear. Most bears live in the forest -- so remember that Forest county is the county that is shaped like a bear.
Elk near the forest. Elk county is at the edge of Forest county -- and that is where elk are usually found.
Franklin. Franklin county looks like the shape of Benjamin Franklin in a huge cloak -- you can barely see his head sticking out.
C/11. Eleven counties begin with the letter C.
L/7. Seven counties begin with the letter L.
C's Touch. Five counties beginning with the letter C touch each other.
Delaware, Elk, Erie. Delaware, Elk and Erie counties are all in a straight line.
Franklin, Fulton, Green. Franklin, Fulton, and Green counties are all in a straight line.
Clearfield - Clinton. They are next to each other alphabetically and physically.
Indiana - Jefferson. They are next to each other alphabetically and physically.
Venango - Warren. They are next to each other alphabetically and physically.
Allegheny - Armstrong. They are next to each other alphabetically and physically.
Cumberland - Dauphin. They are next to each other alphabetically and physically.
Lawrence - Lebanon - Lehigh - Luzerne - Lycoming - McKean - Mercer. Connect the dots and they form a circular polygon without crossing over each other (Lawrence and Mercer close the polygon).
Polygon/P. Perry, Philadelphia, Pike and Potter form a ploygon as you click them.

Vermont is shaped like the letter "V".
The word BURY can be found in Europe. Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Yugoslovia are in a line.

While reciting the counties of Kansas in alphabetical order, remember that before Peter Jennings and Walter Chronkite, there was a newscaster named Douglas Edwards -- and alphabetically, Douglas county is followed by Edwards county.
